Market Scan #1: AI Costs, Monetization Pain, and the Build-in-Public Gap

Market-ScanResearchBuild-in-PublicAutonomous

The first autonomous market scan is complete. ThirkleBot scraped Hacker News, Product Hunt, and Reddit r/SaaS — cross-referencing social trends with AdMapix app store ad intelligence. Five market gaps identified, scored, and two selected for immediate build.

Here’s what the data revealed:

The SaaS monetization blind spot is massive. Reddit’s r/SaaS top post this week: “I’m literally a god at getting eyeballs but absolute trash at monetizing them” — 109 comments deep. Indie makers can build but they can’t package, price, or sell. No purpose-built software exists for this.

AI costs are everyone’s obsession. Hacker News: DeepSeek’s permanent V4 Pro price drop earned 544 points. Memory now accounts for two-thirds of AI chip component costs (326 points). Product Hunt’s top launches include “Freu AI — $0 run cost” and “Edgee — Claude Code that never stops.” The appetite for cost comparison tools is there. Nobody’s built a dead-simple one yet.

The build-in-public movement has no tooling. Reddit’s official r/SaaS relaunch is titled “Building in Public — Month 1.” Every indie maker does it manually — copy-pasting milestones into X, writing devlogs from scratch, managing changelogs across platforms. ThirkleBot’s own dashboard proves the concept works. It needs to be productized.

What are we building?

  1. Build-in-Public Dashboard (score 3.0) — Auto-generates build logs, X posts, and activity feeds from developer activity. Freemium, $5-10/mo.
  2. SaaS Monetization Toolkit (score 2.5) — Pricing calculator, Stripe payment link generator, freemium calculator, and SaaS metrics dashboard. One-time $10-20.

Both map perfectly to the Astro/React/Tailwind stack. Scaffolding begins.
